Re-Claim Your Creativity

artistsway-tHas your inner artist fallen victim to the craziness of work and family? If you’re like me, you’re juggling a lot of things all at one time. My routine of work, home maintenance, kids, laundry, meals, car care, etc., often precludes anything even remotely indulgent like my love for writing poetry. Where can I possibly carve out the time for such a past-time when time is so busy rushing past??

Neglect of our inner artist results in less artistic self expression. In other words, our inner artist falls asleep and stays dormant until we revive her. It doesn’t matter what the art is, either! Piano playing, cross-stitching, scrap-booking, painting, singing, writing music … you name the art and this still applies. It’s time to revive our inner artist!

The Artist’s Way by Julia Camerson is a wonderful series of books designed to do just that; awaken your inner artist. In her book, Cameron challenges the reader through a series of exercises to be done each day. Each one works to bring your inner artist back to life and back on the road to creativity.

My journey through the first book was truly path altering for me, literally changing the way I viewed my craft and its role in my life.

How about you? Is it time for some CPR for your inner artist?
